End The War Now
The people of the United States need to encourage their government to end the war in Iraq now. The cost of the war in Iraq now stands close to $465 billion. The population of Iraq numbers about 27.5 million. With a little long division we discover that for the same price we could have given every Iraqi man woman and child close to $17,000. For a family of four that’s about $67,500.
For a family of four you can buy airfare from Dubai to New York City, about $4,800 for the family. You can pay rent in a decent apartment, about $20,000 a year; pay for all the food they will consume for that year, $7,800; and still have close to $35,000 left over per family. With that money they could buy stuff from Americans, buy a car, get an education, start a small business, or invest in the stock market. Any of these activities would improve the economy here. Instead we are spending that money breaking things in Iraq. Oh, sure, we build a lot of great things there too, but we’re mostly there to break things. This is among the worst possible wastes of government money imaginable. End the war now.
